Combourg.

Combourg Castle, which in its current state dates from the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, dates back to 1016. It was the work of Junken, the bishop of Dol de Bretagne. It first belonged to the Du Guesclin family before passing to the Count of Chateaubriand in the 18th century. From the outside, it has the appearance of a powerful fortress with its four massive towers topped with pepperpot turrets and its crenulated parapet walk and thick walls with narrow openings. The interior was redesigned in 1876. You can visit the chapel, the main lounge, which is now divided into two rooms, the Archive room with an exhibition about the famous author François-René de Chateaubriand (autographs, furniture, decorative objects and so on), and his austere childhood bedroom in the Tour du Chat.
